Rep. Iggy Arroyo's remains leave widow's house en route to Batasan
The remains of the late Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo Jr. left the house of his wife Aleli in La Vista subdivision for the House of Representatives at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City Monday morning.
A long convoy with sport-utility vehicles and Highway Patrol Group motorcycles accompanied the vehicle bearing Arroyo's remains, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.
The convoy left the house past 8 a.m., the report said.
At the House of Representatives, preparations were made to receive the remains at 9 a.m., radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion reported.
Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo and the spokesperson of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Elena Bautista Horn, were among those who arrived at the Batasan Complex.
The former First Gentleman, the late lawmaker's brother, wore a barong and sported a black armband.
Necrological rites were scheduled before noon, the report said.
The Philippine flag at the House of Representatives flew at half mast.
Arroyo's remains were to stay at the Batasan complex until 4 p.m., then sent to Bacolod City in Negros Occidental so Negros residents can pay their final respects to him.
The late lawmaker's remains will stay in Negros until March 7, then will be brought back to the Arroyos' ancestral home in La Vista in Metro Manila.
Arroyo is to be buried at the North Cemetery in Manila on March 9, Friday. –KG, GMA News
