MTRCB: R- and X-rated movies in public vehicles remain banned

Thou shalt not show massacre movies. As people bound for the province pile in buses and boats for the Holy Week break, the Movie and Television Rating and Classification Board (MTRCB) reminded public transport operators once again that only G (General Patronage) and PG (Parental Guidance) rated films can be shown on board public utility vehicles (PUVs).

The directive is contained in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) the MTRCB and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) signed in March last year.

Operators and drivers found in violation of the MOA will be sanctioned by the LTFRB, the penalties of which include a reprimand, fines, confiscation or suspension of licenses or even franchise revocation.

According to a Philippine Information Agency report citing MTRCB Board Member Atty. Eric Mallonga, the MTRCB is working with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to be able to monitor passenger boats.

Violations can be reported to the MTRCB (02-376-7380), or the LTFRB (02-426-2515). —Amanda Lago/VS/HS, GMA News
