JBC sets public interviews for 3 vacant Court of Appeals posts
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has set public interviews for the remaining 13 hopefuls for the three vacancies in the Court of Appeals (CA).
Chaired by Chief Justice Renato Corona, The JBC is the constitutional body mandated to screen, vet, and recommend to the President nominees to vacant judicial posts and nominees.
On the first day of the interview on May 2, seven applicants for associate justices are set to be interviewed, namely:
- Pasay Regional Trial Court Judge Racquelen Abary-Vasquez;
- Arellano University law dean and Bar topnotcher Virgilio Gesmundo;
- Quezon City RTC Judge Marie Christine Jacob;
- Batangas RTC Judge Ma. Cecilia Austria-Chua;
- lawyer Carlos Espero II;
- Isabela RTC Judge Bernabe Mendoza; and
- Baguio RTC Judge Antonio Reyes.
On May 3, those to be interviewed are:
- lawyer Angelina Ortega-Cortez;
- Makati RTC Judge Perpetua Paño;
- Nueva Vizcaya RTC Judge Marianthe Pacita Zuraek;
- Cebu City RTC Executive Judge Simeon Dumdum Jr;
- lawyer George Misa; and
- Mandaluyong RTC Judge Elvira De Castro Panganiban.
They will be interviewed at the Training Room, Centennial Building of the SUpreme Court along Padre Faura in Manila.
Apart from the 13 applicants, 58 others are vying for the vacant seats but will no longer be interviewed during the two-day interview since they have already been interviewed earlier in June, July, November 2011, and January 2012, the JBC said in a public announcement.
"The public may submit to the JBC sworn complaint, report, or opposition (in ten legible copies) against any of the aforesaid applicants no later than 23 April 2012 (Monday)," the JBC said in the same notice signed by Enriqueta Esguerra-Vidal, JBC ex-officio secretary.
Successful applicants will assume the post vacated by retired Associate Justices Josefina Guevarra-Salonga who retired Feb. 14 and the posts to be vacated by Juan Enriquez and Antonio Villamor who are retiring on June 30 and July 4, respectively. — Mark Merueñas/RSJ, GMA News
