PAGASA: Even Baguio not spared from warm weather; Luzon to remain hot

Not even the country's summer capital is exempted from the warm weather now affecting parts of Luzon, as state weather forecasters said hot weather will continue to prevail over parts of the country this week.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said this is due to the ridge of a high-pressure area affecting Luzon.

"Sa Baguio noong April 13, 28.2 degrees (Celsius). Mainit na ‘yan para sa kanila. Ngayon inaasahan natin maaaring umabot sa 27 (degrees Celsius) ang pinakamainit diyan," PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio.

She said Metro Manila may remain hot for this week, after experiencing its hottest weather so far this year at 35.3 degrees Celsius last April 12.

In other areas, she said Tuguegarao City had experienced its hottest weather last April 13 at 35.7 degrees Celsius.

"Ang Metro Manila, inaasahan pa nating iinit pa ‘yan ... Inaasahan natin ang mainit na panahon itong linggong ito," she said.

She also said the only reason why there is a cool breeze before dawn is because of the remnants of the northeast monsoon.

But she said the heat will be most intense from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On the other hand, she said the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) may bring rain to parts of the south.

"Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

Light to moderate winds from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon, and coming from the east to northeast over the rest of the country.

Costal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. –KG, GMA News
