PNoy predicts 10 million tourists to visit PHL in 2016
By GIAN C. GERONIMO, GMA NEWS
President Benigno Aquino III, in his third State of the Nation Address on Monday, said the Philippines should expect to entertain 10 million tourists by 2016.
“Sa dinami-rami ng magagandang tanawin sa ating bansa, hindi naman siguro suntok sa buwan kung mangarap tayong pagdating ng 2016, sampung milyong turista na ang bibisita sa Pilipinas kada taon,” he said.
Aslo, Aquino was confident that the government will meet its target tourist rate this year.
“Di ako nagdududa na maaabot ang quota na 4.6 million na tourists for 2012,” Aquino said.
The President attributed the tourism growth to the Department of Tourism’s vigorous campaigning, invoking the campaign’s current tagline, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.”
“Kung patuloy na magkakaisa ang sambayanang Pilipino, gaya ng ipinamalas natin nang hirangin ang Puerto Princesa Underground River bilang isa sa New Seven Wonders of Nature, walang dudang makakamtan natin (ang 10 million tourists).”
Aquino also attributed the robust tourism growth to improved infrastructure, which he also mentioned in his SONA. — DVM, GMA News
