Gloria savors ‘precious moments' of freedom with family

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will spend her first few moments of temporary freedom with her family in their home in Quezon City, her spokesperson said Wednesday.

“We humbly seek your understanding for an appeal to allow former President Arroyo to enjoy some precious moments with her family for the meantime,” Elena Bautista-Horn, Mrs. Arroyo’s chief-of-staff and spokesperson, said in a statement.

Horn said Mrs. Arroyo wanted to “make up some lost time with her children and grandchildren.”

Mrs. Arroyo went home after the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112 allowed her to post a P1-million bail in connection to her poll sabotage case.

Supposedly suffering from a bone mineral disorder, the former President spent the past eight months under hospital arrest.

Mrs. Arroyo’s daughter, Lourdes “Luli” Arroyo-Bernas, said she was grateful for her mother’s temporary freedom, and noted the former President have some rest for the rest of the day.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa Diyos. Para sa amin, ipinapakita lang nito na may hustisya sa ating bansa,” Bernas said in an interview over “News TV Live.”

She added that Mrs. Arroyo will continue her physical therapy at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City, where the former President was detained since last December.

Horn said Mrs. Arroyo also plans to check into a facility for alternative medicine until the weekend.

“She [Mrs. Arroyo] is not yet out of danger and still needs close medical attention and supervision… Let us help her to continue and support her recuperation from her ailment,” Horn added. — VS, GMA News
