Gloria Arroyo briefly visits parents' grave at Libingan ng mga Bayani
After leaving an alternative healing facility in Tagaytay City early Friday, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo went to the Libingan ng Mga Bayani in Taguig City where her father, the late President Diosdado Macapagal, is buried.
The convoy carrying Mrs. Arroyo entered the cemetery's main gate at 9:45 a.m., shortly after the former Philippine leader left the healing facility, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported.
It reached the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where Mrs. Arroyo got off one of the vehicles in the convoy, dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.
Security was tight, with Mrs. Arroyo's security escorts asking media to keep their distance. Mrs. Arroyo left the cemetery at 9:55 a.m.
The report said the former leader may pass by the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City before going to the second district of Pampanga, which she represents in the House of Representatives.
Her spokesperson Elena Bautista-Horn was quoted as saying that Mrs. Arroyo's itinerary in Pampanga may include her hometown Lubao and Porac and Guagua towns in the second district.
Earlier in the day, Mrs. Arroyo left the alternative healing center in Tagaytay City where she spent Thursday night in a room without radio, television or telephones.
Mrs. Arroyo had tasted temporary liberty Wednesday after a Pasay City court handling electoral sabotage charges against her allowed her to post a P1-million bail.
But she also faces separate charges of plunder - a non-bailable offense - over alleged irregularities at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. — RSJ, GMA News
