NDRRMC: Typhoon Gener death toll jumps to 23


The death toll from Typhoon Gener (Saola) jumped to 23 Thursday, even as at least 29 roads and three bridges were damaged in the wake of heavy rain brought by the cyclone, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 7 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatalities were from Bataan, Bulacan, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Negros Oriental and Misamis Oriental. Among the most recent fatalities were:

- Angelito Bicoy, 59, of Quezon province, drowned and recovered in Mariveles, Bataan last July 31 - Efren Salvacion, 41, Obando, Bulacan (drowned) - Patrick dela Rosa, 12, Marilao, Bulacan (drowned) - Mary Jane Lima, 24, Silay City (pinned by fallen tree) - Madeline Caminade, 48, Iloilo City (pinned by fallen tree) - Emelia Pasugiron, Bayawan City Negros Oriental (knocked by fallen tree branch) - Andrei Pasugiron, Bayawan City (hit by uprooted coconut tree) - Augusto Campo, Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental (hit by fallen coconut tree)
At least 21 were injured while 125 had been rescued from various incidents related to Gener, the NDRRMC said. The NDRRMC said Gener affected 69,292 families or 331,588 people in 500 villages in 90 towns and 22 cities in 27 provinces. Of these, 2,664 families or 12,000 people are being served in 61 evacuation centers. Also, 600 houses were destroyed while 2,185 were damaged. The NDRRMC said Camiguin province was without power since 11 a.m. Wednesday. It also reported power outage in Tuba, Tublay, Kibungan, La Trinidad and Itogon in Benguet; and five villages in Baguio City. Moreover, it said 29 roads and three bridges remained impassable due to Gener. The most recent ones include: Cagayan
