Police ask two more neophytes to surface and shed light on San Beda law student's death

Even as they eye as many as 34 suspects in the fatal hazing of San Beda law school student Marc Andre Marcos last month, police appealed Monday to at least two more neophytes who survived the initiation rites to surface and shed light on the case.

In a radio interview, Cavite police chief Senior Superintendent John Bulalacao identified the two as Mac Cabansag and Marco Lopez, but did not elaborate on how they can help in the probe.

“Ito [ay] parehong [mga] biktima rin. Kung maaari [sana] sila [ay] lumantad para makausap ko... mga neophyte ito kasabay sa initiation. Kailangan makausap sa lalong madaling panahon para makatulong sila sa investigation,” Bulalacao told dzBB radio.

Bulalacao said their investigation showed there were nine neophytes, including Marcos, who underwent hazing.

For now, he said they are hoping their witnesses can identify the 34 suspects by face or by voice. All of the 34 supposed suspects remain at large.

“Yung iba hindi namin makilala pero pag makita ng mukha ng witness namin, madali nilang ma-identify at kung marinig ang boses,” Bulalacao said. Refused to become witnesses On Friday, two alleged hazing victims — Ephraim Daniel Lara and Christopher Ryan Maranan, both batchmates of Marcos — surfaced to clear their names from the incident.
Lara and Maranan said they surfaced because they have been named in the anonymous letter sent to police and Marc Andre's family.

The letter included a narration of the supposed events that took place prior to, and during the alleged hazing incident. Also in the letter, the names of over 30 people allegedly involved in the hazing were included. But both Maranan and Lara refused to become complainants or witnesses to the case.

Marcos was buried in his home province of Tarlac Sunday, amid calls by his friends and relatives for justice. Marcos had undergone hazing during initiation rites for the Lex Leonum fraternity. Where is Gian Veluz?

Meanwhile, Bulalacao said suspect Gian Veluz has yet to surface despite his father’s promise to help convince him to surrender.

Bulalacao said he had given the younger Veluz until last Friday to surface, after Veluz’s father, former councilor Angelito “Itan” Veluz, promised to “help.”

“Inaasahan ko Friday ipakita sa akin ang kanyang anak. Wala pa ako narinig sa kanya o lawyer sa pinagusapan namin,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
