DepEd suspends work at central office

Amid the problems from the floods caused by days of heavy rain on Metro Manila and nearby areas, another government office suspended work Wednesday.

The Department of Education (DepEd) gave employees at its central office in Pasig City the half-day off, suspending work effective 11 a.m. Wednesday.

"Effective 11 a.m., work in DepEd Central Office is suspended today, Aug. 8," the DepEd said on its Twitter account.

President Benigno Aquino III's Facebook account said DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro issued the order via an office memorandum.

"All personnel may opt to go home unless they have important matters to attend to in the office, he added," Aquino said.  A separate report by dzBB's Glen Juego said the DepEd's order stemmed from the possibility of heavy rain later in the day.
