NDRRMC: 8 roads, 6 bridges still impassable in 'Helen' wake
At least eight roads and six bridges remained impassable in the wake of Tropical Storm Helen (Kai-Tak), which brought heavy rain to parts of Luzon last week. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also estimated the damage to agriculture from Helen at P125.130 million as of Sunday. In its 5 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the roads included:
- La Union: San Fernando-Baguilin Road - Cagayan: Cagayan-Apayao Road, Itawes Overflow Bridge - Isabela: Cabangan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge - Bataan: Bagac-Mariveles Road, Biaan Bridge, Banayam Bridge, Paysawan Bridge (Timber) - Pampanga: Candaba-San Miguel Road, Baliuag-Candaba Sta. Ana Road, Paliqui, San Agustin, Candaba, Sto. Tomas-Minalin Road km, San Matias, Sto. Niño, San Vicente, Sto. Tomas, San Isidro, Minalin, Telacsan, Macabebe - Laguna: Paete-Famy-Poblacion Road, Panigil-Siniloan section - Rizal: Marikina-Infanta Rd (Marcos Highway) (Boso-Boso section) - Occidental Mindoro: Mompong Bridge Approach "B" Barangay Tuban, Sablayan Occidental Mindoro - Apayao: Abra-Kalinga Rd (KO486+700)
At least 15 cities and towns in Ilocos and Central Luzon remain affected by floods. The NDRRMC said the death toll remained at 10, with 17 injured and three rescued. Also, the NDRRMC said Helen affected 3,423 families or 13,234 people in 414 villages in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central and Southern Luzon, and Cordillera. Of these, 2,520 families or 9,993 people are staying in 50 evacuation centers. Meanwhile, the estimated damage to agriculture in Ilocos and Cagayan Valley alone was at P125,129,796.87.
