Security tightened at Naga City Hall, basilica for transfer of Robredo remains

Police tightened security at Naga City Hall and at the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia early Monday for the transfer of the remains of the late Interior Secretary and former Naga Mayor Jesse Robredo.

Shortly after 7 a.m., authorities ended the vigil at City Hall to prepare the remains of Robredo for transfer, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported.

There were still some residents who lingered near City Hall to pay their respects to Robredo even after the public viewing ended at 7 a.m., the report said.

Flower arrangements had been moved to the basilica in time for the transfer.

A bulletin released by Malacañang said the transfer is to start at 8 a.m., with the Philippine National Police to render departure honors at Naga City Hall and arrival honors at the basilica.

The transfer will take a route from Miranda Ave. to Panganiban, Rotonda, Roxas Ave. (Diversion), Tabuco Bridge, Gen. Luna, left at Abella, J.P. Rizal, Queborac, M.T. Villanueva, Magsaysay Bridge, and Balatas.

Robredo died in a plane crash in Masbate last Aug. 18. The crash also killed the plane's pilot and co-pilot. Only Robredo's aide survived the crash.

Following the transfer, public viewing and vigil at the basilica will resume at 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., when the archdiocese will offer a Mass for Robredo.

The public viewing and vigil will then resume at 6 p.m. until midnight. –KG, GMA News
