SLPA spotted off Quezon province, heavy rains expected in South PHL
Heavy rains are expected in southern parts of the country even as state weather forecasters spotted a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) off Quezon province Wednesday morning.
"The shallow low pressure area (SLPA) was estimated 280KM east of Infanta, Quezon, as of 4am. Meanwhile the monsoon trough, where the SLPA is embedded, will continue to bring occasional moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, becoming occasional moderate over southern Luzon," explained GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz.
"Northern and Central Luzon will have rainshowers and thunderstorms. In Metro Manila, expect cloudy skies with moderate rains and thunderstorms," he added.
SLPA expected to dissipate
The SLPA is not expected to become a cyclone and may dissipate once it makes landfall, according to PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza.
"Maliit ang chance nito mamuo bilang tropical depression ... Lalo pag tumama sa kalupaan, ito ay malulusaw," Mendoza said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the SLPA appeared to have an "erratic" movement.
PAGASA bulletin
In its 5am bulletin, PAGASA said Metro Manila will experience occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, with moderate winds blowing from the west to southwest likely to prevail and Manila Bay to be moderate.
It also said that Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with occasional moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms.
The rest of Southern Luzon will experience occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms, it added.
Northern and Central Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with brief rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the west to southwest with slight to moderate seas. — TJD, GMA News
