NDRRMC: 'Lawin' affected 7,921 people; Mindoro road still impassable
At least 3,134 families or 7,921 people were affected in the wake of Typhoon Lawin (Jelawat), which exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Sunday most of those affected were from Southern Luzon and the Zamboanga area. In its 6 a.m. update, it said the 3,134 affected families were from 43 villages of Region IV-B and Region IX. Also, the NDRRMC noted the constructed detour road of Mompong Bridge along West Coast Road in Barangay Tuban in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, remained impassable. However, the Pola Spillway in Barangay Barahan in Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro, is passable after the overflowed water had subsided. The NDRRMC said the death toll remained at three, with a resident of Sirawai in Zamboanga del Norte still listed as missing. Lawin was the last cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in September. PAGASA expects two to three cyclones to enter the PAR in October. — LBG, GMA News
