Ramon Magsaysay Jr. files certificate of candidacy
Clad in yellow that identifies the administration-led Liberal Party, former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. filed his re-election bid at about 8:30 a.m. at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila. In endorsing the former senator, party-mate Senator Franklin Drilon called Magsaysay Jr. the "real Magsaysay." Drilon clarified, however, that he did not mean to say that Senator Mitos Magsaysay – who is running under LP's rival coalition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) – is a "fake Magsaysay." Magsaysay Jr. – the son and namesake of the late president Ramon Magsaysay – served as senator from 1995 to 2007. Mitos of UNA, meanwhile, is the daughter-in-law of former Zambales Gov. Vicente Magsaysay, a relative of Magsaysay Jr. — Marc Jason Cayabyab /LBG, GMA News
