Palace: No security threat related to MILF pact signing

On the weekend before the signing of a historic framework peace agreement between the government and secessionist rebels, Malacañang sees no security threat to the event. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said this Saturday as she pointed out preparations are continuing in full swing for the ceremonies on Monday. “Wala tayong nakukuhang any information of threats," she said on government-run dzRB radio. Her reassurance came hours after a grenade exploded and caused damage to a building in San Juan City before dawn Saturday. Valte said the Metro Manila police is investigating the incident. “They are pursuing all possible leads, sa investigation na 'yan," she said. Meanwhile, she said preparations are in full swing for the signing ceremonies which will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Rizal Hall in Malacañan Palace. After the signing, she said a press briefing with peace negotiators Marvic Leonen (government) and Mohagher Iqbal (MILF) will be held. Citing information from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, she said at least 200 people are expected to represent the MILF alone. The guest list is to be finalized on Sunday, she said. — LBG, GMA News
