Fire hits Nueva Ecija public market; QC fire destroyed P1.5-M property
A fire of undetermined origin razed the public market in San Jose City in Nueva Ecija province in Central Luzon late Thursday night.
No one was initially reported injured in the fire, which started shortly after 10 p.m. and reached the fifth alarm, radio dzBB reported early Friday.
The fire was eventually put under control at 12:08 a.m., the report added.
Arson investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire as well as the extent of damage it caused.
Initial investigation showed the fire started at the market's dry goods section and quickly spread.
QC fire victims spend night in street
In Metro Manila, meanwhile, many of the 400 families affected by a fire that hit a residential area in Quezon City spent Thursday night in the streets.
A fire of undetermined origin had hit the residential compound in the Balintawak area in Quezon City Thursday morning.
City fire marshal Senior Superintendent Bobby Baruelo said the fire had razed at least 200 houses as of noon, even as firefighters had a hard time fighting the blaze.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday said the damage to property caused by the fire was estimated at P1.5 million. –KG, GMA News
