DepEd: Sem break not canceled despite recent class suspensions
Despite the class suspensions in past months due to heavy rain and floods, the Department of Education is not calling off the one-week semestral break for students this year.
The DepEd said the semestral break will take place Oct. 22 to 25, with no classes on Oct. 26—a holiday marking Eid-ul Adha, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported Friday.
The dzBB report quoted the DepEd's communications division as saying the period between Oct. 22 to 25 will be spent by teachers for the yearly mid-year assessment.
Besides, the DepEd said makeup classes are being conducted on Saturdays and Sundays in areas affected by frequent class suspensions due to floods and heavy rain.
Students from preschool to high school are to return to classes on Oct. 29—three days before the long All Saints' weekend that starts on Nov. 1, Thursday.
Heavy rain and floods brought by the southwest monsoon last August had forced the suspension of classes in parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Under the DepEd's Order No. 26 dated April 4, the calendar for School Year 2012-2013 calls for a semestral break Oct. 22 to 25.
There will also be no classes on Oct. 26, a holiday. –KG, GMA News
