Cooler weather, rain over Luzon from northeast monsoon
Rain is expected over parts of Luzon Monday even as the northeast monsoon starts to bring cooler temperatures, state weather forecasters said.
PAGASA forecaster Connie Dadivas said they expect no weather disturbance or cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next few days.
"Wala tayong inaasahang anumang sama ng panahon o low-pressure area sa loob o labas ng PAR," Dadivas said in an interview on dzBB radio, even as she cautioned fishermen in Northern Luzon against big waves due to the northeast monsoon.
"With the absence of any tropical disturbance inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the whole country will experience partly cloudy skies with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms, except for light rains over eastern Luzon (Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon and Bicol Region). Strong northeasterly winds are blowing over Luzon and a gale warning is in effect over the seaboards of northern Luzon due to rough coastal waters," said GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz.

For now, Dadivas said Metro Manila and much of Luzon can expect relatively good weather, while Mindanao may expect rain after two to three days.
"Inaasahan natin medyo malamig ang umaga sa Metro Manila. Prevailing na ang northeasterly pero hindi pa tayo naglabas ng official sa amihan, hindi pa ganyan kalakas ang winter," she said.
She said temperatures in Metro Manila are still at a "high" 22.6 degrees Celsius. But once the northeast monsoon sets in, she said this may go as low as 15.1 degrees.
Forecast temperatures for Oct. 29, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said the northeast monsoon is affecting Northern Luzon.
"Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon and Bicol will have light rain while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rain showers or thunderstorms," it said.
It added moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast and east with slight to moderate seas.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon may affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon.
"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said. — TJD, GMA News
