Landslide reported in Leyte, 1 missing in 'Quinta' wake — OCD
One person was reported missing and a landslide blocked a road in Southern Leyte after tropical cyclone Quinta (Wukong) ravaged several islands in the Visayas, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Wednesday. "Isa ang casualty natin, missing siya ... May pumasok na report na missing fisherman sa Leyte, hinahanap pa ngayon," OCD Eastern Visayas head Rey Gozon said in an interview on dzBB radio. He added that landslides were reported in two villages in Sogod town in Southern Leyte before dawn Wednesday. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said one of the landslides rendered the Kahupian-Sogod Road impassable. A minor landslide was also recorded at MacArthur town in Eastern Samar Tuesday night. Gozon said the OCD has given ports in Leyte the go-signal to resume operations, but only for ships heading for areas that are not covered by storm alerts. The NDRRMC said at least 5,809 passengers, 184 rolling cargoes and 84 vehicles were stranded when Quinta swept across parts of Mindanao and the Visayas in the past two days. In its 1 p.m. report Wednesday, the NDRRMC said 80 families had been preemptively evacuated from Dapa in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte. The agency said evacuees in the Dinagat Island have been allowed to return home. — KBK, GMA News
