PNP: Service firearm muzzles sealed for New Year
The Philippine National Police on Saturday said it has sealed the muzzles of its personnel's service firearms to make sure cops do not use them to welcome the New Year. PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the firearm muzzles of police at PNP headquarters and in Metro Manila were sealed Saturday morning. "Ginagawa na ang muzzling (sa firearms) na naka-issue sa mga pulis... para matiyak natin na walang indiscriminate firing na mangyari," he said in an interview on government-run dzRB radio. Cerbo also said the PNP expects all units nationwide to have similarly sealed the muzzles of their firearms. "Gagawin din ang muzzing of fireamrs sa lahat ng units nationwide," he said. Earlier, Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina led the sealing of muzzles at Metro Manila police headquarters in Taguig City, radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported. A separate report on "Balitanghali" said Espina warned cops found to have fired their weapons should have a legitimate reason for doing so. "Kung pinaputok 'yan there should be a legitimate reason... whithout this, firing of guns is a "dismissable offense," he said. Meanwhile, police also destroyed at Camp Karingal in Quezon City the illegal fireworks they confiscated in raids on illegal firecrackers depot. — LBG, GMA News
