DepEd: Division, regional, central offices have work on Feb. 25
Monday, Feb. 25, may be a special holiday for schools, but not necessarily for other employees of the Department of Education. The DepEd on Sunday said on it Twitter account: "Only division, regional and central offices have work. Teaching and Non-teaching personnel reporting to schools need not go to work tomorrow, Feb. 25." On Monday, the nation will mark the 27th anniversary of the EDSA-1 People Power uprising. The DepEd said this will be a special holiday for all schools nationwide. President Benigno Aquino III last year signed Proclamation 459 where he specified Feb. 25 will be a special holiday for schools. In the proclamation, Aquino said the EDSA-1 revolt had restored [democratic institutions] and ushered "political, social and economic reforms" in the country and "serves as an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere as a nation and as a people." Aquino's late mother Corazon had been catapulted to the presidency in the wake of the EDSA-1 revolt, which ousted then strongman Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. — LBG, GMA News
