Comelec to open PCOS demo center in Intramuros

The Commission on Elections is set to open Wednesday morning a PCOS (precinct count optical scan machine) demonstration center in its main office in Intramuros, Manila where the public can experience voting and feeding the ballot to the machine.

Poll chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. and other Comelec commissioners will lead the unveiling of the permanent PCOS demonstration center inside the Palacio del Gobernador building around 10:30 a.m.

On his Twitter account, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said “students, citizen journalists, and the public are welcome at the PCOS Demo Center in Intramuros. Come see us whenever you can.”

He added the center will operate every working day starting Wednesday until one week before the Election Day.

On March 25, the poll body launched a PCOS demonstration center inside the Comelec Compound along Governor Pack Road in Baguio City. Jimenez said the center is “very near the bus stations and malls.”

Comelec-Cordillera Administrative Region acting regional election director lawyer Jose Nick Mendros said the PCOS Demo Center in Baguio will be operational from Mondays to Saturdays.

It will be manned by three personnel who will  conduct regular PCOS demonstrations for the public, the media and members of accredited citizens’ arms in the locality.

Walk-ins will also be allowed to participate.

In a press statement, Jimenez urged Baguio voters and the tourists who are expected to flock to the Summer Capital this Holy Week to drop by at the PCOS Demo Center to experience automated voting.

Similar PCOS Demo Centers will also be established in all cities in Metro Manila, Jimenez added. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
