(Update 2) Sotto: FPJ will understand bond with Arroyo party

(Update 2) Swarmed by fans, Vicente “Tito" Sotto III has filed his candidacy for senator, at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, saying his decision to align with the administration could have had blessings from the late Fernando Poe Jr. Sotto was with wife, actress Helen Gamboa, his children and top comedian-brother Vic Sotto of Eat Bulaga!. Jane, the wife of former senator Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan, was also at the Commission on Elections in Manila to support Sotto's candidacy. Most of them wore blue which Sotto said was a sign of unity and reconciliation. Sotto filed his candidacy under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). Asked by radio dzBB if he is already under the administration’s Team Unity, Sotto said in Filipino that “we are leaving that announcement through the NPC chairman." Would Sotto feel comfortable campaigning with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the administration’s kickoff campaign in Cebu? “I’ve already said what I’ve said before. If we will remain (concerned about) the past, we will never prosper…we will never be able to reconcile. In the future we can still reconcile…I have to respect the alliance…." Sotto replied in Filipino. Sotto also dismissed the results of earlier surveys that placed him on the number two position when he was still under the opposition and down to number five when he joined NPC. “I don’t believe in that. Surveys are not the Bible. That’s not accurate… I’ve always been on top five and that’s it….The true survey is on May 14." Sotto said that if Poe were alive today, “he would support my decision". “Wherever FPJ goes, he gets angry when somebody criticizes GMA (President Arroyo)….FPJ doesn’t want pouring scorn on people," added Sotto in Filipino. -GMANews.TV
