Churches prepare for Easter with vigil


After days of reflecting on Jesus'  Passion and Death, Filipino Catholics on Saturday evening started preparing to celebrate His Resurrection by attending an Easter vigil. Many Filipinos flocked to churches for the event, to wait until late night or midnight for the Salubong, which "reenacts" the meeting of the Risen Christ and Mother Mary. Salubong is a predawn ritual usually performed in the churchyard, where men and boys following an image of Christ and girls and women following an image of Mary meet at the church. In Manila, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines said:

On the other hand, the Easter vigil at Quiapo Church is at 9 p.m., with the Salubong at midnight. The CBCP said it would stream the vigil and Salubong in Quiapo on its Visita Iglesia site — LBG, GMA News
