DTI to keep close watch on school supplies' prices
With the new school year drawing closer, the Department of Trade and Industry is keeping tabs on prices of school supplies, and will hold a "Diskwento Caravan" this coming week.
DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said Saturday the caravan will have its initial salvo on Monday, and will branch out to the provinces in the coming weeks.
"Mag-uumpisa sa Lunes ang ating caravan sa school supplies, ito sa Makati sa tapat ng DTI office. Magkakaroon din sa probinsya after ating initial salvo," she said in an interview on dzBB radio.
The Diskwento Caravans sell school supplies at lower prices, to make school items more affordable to families.
Maglaya also said they continue to monitor prices of school supplies, adding the suggested retail prices of such items remains basically the same as last year's.
"Kami ay patuloy magbabantay presyo, lalo sa school supplies lalo na't malapit na ang opening ng klase," she said.
In the meantime, she urged the public to report high prices of school supplies to the DTI via its landline and mobile hotlines.
She said reports may be relayed to the landline at 7513330 or to 0917-8343330. — LBG, GMA News
