PNoy swears in PNP chief, 47 other newly-promoted police officers

President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday swore in 48 recently promoted officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in ceremonies held inside Malacañang Palace.

PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima led the police officers who took their oaths before the President and Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.

Purisima is now officially a full-fledged general. He received his fourth star and was promoted to the highest rank as police officer last December.

Also among those who took their oaths was Police Director Lina Sarmiento, the first female police officer in history to receive two stars, a rank equivalent to that of a major general in the military. — Andreo Calonzo/BM, GMA News
