Security tightened at Caloocan jail
Security was tightened at the Caloocan City Jail following a shooting incident involving inmates Sunday night, even as jail officials kept mum on how the inmates got hold of firearms. Radio dzBB reported Tuesday morning that Caloocan City police complained the jail guards refused to shed light on how firearms could be smuggled into the jail compound. But the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured police of full cooperation into the investigation, and hinted "heads will roll" in the probe. On the other hand, security was tightened and visitors to inmates screened to prevent a repeat of Sunday evening's incident. In Sunday evening's incident, Bonifacio Bote, 24, of the Commando Gang, used a caliber .22 revolver to shoot Raymund Custodio, 30, of the rival Sigue-Sigue Sputnik Gang and Sigue-Sigue Sputnik member Rizalino Pangilinan, 44. The incident was the second since late last year, when a jail warden "accidentally" shot a suspect in the robbery-murder of RPN-9 cameraman Ralph Ruñez. It also prompted the replacement of warden Superintendent Mamerto Delloro by Superintendent Michael Vidamo. - GMANews.TV
