Cardinal Tagle takes possession of titular church in Rome

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle received a warm welcome from his new parishioners over the weekend as he formally took possession of his titular church in Rome, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines said Monday. The CBCP said Tagle will now be considered the cardinal patron of San Felice da Cantalice a Centocelle at Piazza San Felice da Cantalice. Under Catholic tradition, each cardinal is given a “titular see” in Rome that serves as a highly symbolic link to the Pope. The ceremony, which included a concelebrated Mass hosted by the local parish priest, took place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Rome, or 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Manila. During Sunday's event, the CBCP said Filipino priests, nuns and lay people staying in Rome attended the liturgical celebration. The CBCP noted that San Felice da Cantalice a Centocelle is referred to as “a Centocelle”, derived from the Roman Empire's cavalry and their barracks consisting of 100 lodging rooms. "It is currently administered by the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin since 1928," said the CBCP. — DVM, GMA News
