PAGASA: TD Emong nears Aurora, accelerates slightly; rain over NCR to ease

Tropical Depression Emong accelerated slightly as it now hovered near Aurora province early Tuesday. Meanwhile state weather forecasters said there may be less rain over Metro Manila compared to Monday. PAGASA forecaster Elvie Enriquez said Tropical Depression Emong is still enhancing the southwest monsoon and may intensify in the next 24 hours. "Mga Huwebes siya lalabas [ng Philippine area of responsibility]," Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. Enriquez also said Metro Manila residents may expect some relief from the heavy evening rains as Tuesday's precipitation will not be as intense as Monday's. This is partly due to the dissipation of the low-pressure area west of Luzon. Emong PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said that as of 4 a.m., Emong was estimated to be 460 km east of Baler, Aurora, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. Emong is forecast to move north-northwest at 15 kph. "Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms," it said. PAGASA added the rest of the country will have "partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms." Moderate to strong winds from the southwest to west will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the southwest over Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough. — DVM, GMA News
