PNP: No problem with setting up Napoles courtroom in Fort Sto. Domingo

The Philippine National Police said Tuesday it sees no problem setting up a temporary courtroom in Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to handle the case against suspected pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim-Napoles.

PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said the building used for court proceedings against Moro National Liberation Front chairman Nur Misuari is still there and can be used again once cleaned up.

"Paglinis at kaunting ayos, pwede na 'yan," Sindac said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Besides, he said the facility is just a few steps away from the bungalow-type structure where Napoles is detained.

"Ilang hakbang lang. Hindi problema," he said.

On Monday, some senators suggested that the court proceedings against Napoles be held inside the highly secured Fort Sto. Domingo.

Napoles had been brought to Fort Sto. Domingo Sunday for security reasons. Napoles was tagged in a P10-billion pork barrel fund scam.

She faces not only charges from the pork barrel fund mess but also a charge of serious illegal detention of whistleblower Benhur Luy. The second offense was the basis of a warrant issued for her arrest.

Last week, Napoles surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III and was detained at Camp Crame before being transferred to the Makati City Jail, and then to Fort Sto. Domingo. —KG, GMA News
