AFP to Zamboanga folk: MNLF remnants on the run but 'still very dangerous'
The followers of Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari are still considered "very dangerous" though they may be on the run following calibrated government operations in Zamboanga City, the military said Friday.
Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc, commander of the Philippine Army’s 7th Civil Relations Group, advised residents to report sightings of these remnants to the authorities.
"The remnants of Misuari's armed followers may be low in ammunition but they are still very dangerous," Cabunoc said on his Twitter account early Friday.
He added some of Misuari's followers had changed to civilian attire "as they attempt to escape."
"If you have spotted any of those armed men, report them to the security forces in Zamboanga," he said.
Cabunoc said soldiers in Zamboanga did their physical training Thursday night with a "slow walk carrying a rifle and bandoleer."
On Thursday evening, Cabunoc said at least three Misuari followers were killed while trying to breach the security cordon around the city.
He said they also recovered three high-powered firearms from the slain Misuari followers.
Cabunoc said soldiers had been watching the possible escape routes of the Misuari followers "using night-vision devices to prevent them from escaping." — ELR, GMA News
