Rep. Toby Tiangco denies Jinggoy is his neighbor in Wack Wack

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco on Thursday denied a media report that he is a neighbor of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada in posh Wack Wack village in Mandaluyong, noting that his Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) is open for public scrutiny.

“Hindi ko kapitbahay si Senator Jinggoy. Let us stick to the facts, to documents. My SALN is open to everyone, pwedeng humingi kahit sino,” Tiangco told reporters at the House of Representatives.

However, Tiangco did not deny owning property both in Wack Wack and in another village in Greenhills.

“Binenta ko yung bahay ko sa Greenhills nung 2010 at bumili ako ng bahay [at] lote sa Wack Wack. So yung dalawang yun nasa SALN ko,” he said.

Tiangco is the Secretary-General of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and a known Estrada ally.

He made the statements after the news website Rappler reported that Estrada is supposedly constructing a house on a 3,000-square meter lot in Wack-Wack subdivision in Mandaluyong, costing up to P120 million, behind Tiangco’s property.

Estrada, who gave a scathing privilege speech Wednesday accusing the Commission on Audit for being “biased” and selective” in its 2007-2009 special audit report, is one of the three senators facing plunder charges over the alleged pork barrel scam.

According to Rappler, Estrada declared a net worth of P193.6 million in his 2012 SALN. Estrada did not mention the Wack Wack property in his report.

For his part, Tiangco said as far as he knew, the supposed lot where Estrada’s house is being built is owned by Verdant Holdings.

“Kung sino man yung mga kapitbahay ko dun, transaction 'yun between the seller of the lot and the buyer. Hindi na para ako ang magsabi nun. Ang owner nung bahay na 'yun, tingnan niyo dokumento, nakalista sa Register of Deeds ng Mandaluyong, ang nakasulat is Verdant Holdings. Malinaw 'yun, documentary evidence yun,“ he said.

Tiangco admitted that his Wack Wack home was also purchased via Verdant Holdings, but said it was constructed specifically for him.

However, Tiangco admitted that he invited Estrada to a party for homeowners. The senator did not show up, according to Tiangco, nor has he seen Estrada on the property. — BM, GMA News
