Oct. 31 not a holiday – Palace

Malacañang on Wednesday clarified that Oct. 31 is not a holiday, although Filipinos can anticipate two successive long weekends due to two upcoming events: The barangay polls and the traditional All Saints' Day.

The barangay elections on October 28, a Monday, is a special non-working day; and the All Saints' Day (November 1) this year falls on a Friday.

Meanwhile, the Official Gazette clarified that October 31, Thursday, is not a holiday, contrary to a news report saying the Palace has declared it a holiday.

The news report, which has been widely shared on Twitter, dates back to 2011.

It also noted that All Saints' Day, November 1 (Friday) and All Souls' Day, Nov. 2 (Saturday) are special non-working days.

Still, there are five remaining holidays for the year:

November 30 – Bonifacio Day

December 24 – Special non-working day

December 25 – Christmas Day

December 30 – Rizal Day

December 31 – Last Day of the Year (special non-working day)
