DepEd: Simple graduation rites will do

Keep it simple. This was the reminder of the Department of Education (DepEd) to principals of public elementary and high schools as they prepare for Graduation Day rites this month. Radio dzBB quoted DepEd Undersecretary for programs and planning Vilma Labrador as saying this is aimed at preventing expenses for parents of members of Batch 2007. Labrador reminded principals that the DepEd will not require the use of togas and fancy auditoriums or venues for graduation rites. Instead, she said graduating students can attend rites in their regular school uniforms, and at the school gymnasium. Labrador issued the reminder after receiving again this year the "usual" complaints from some parents that they are being made to pay various fees for their children's graduation rites. - GMANews.TV
