(UPDATE) MMDA poised to suspend color-coding scheme

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officials said Tuesday they have "approved in principle" the suspension of the color-coding traffic reduction scheme. Cesar Lacuna, MMDA deputy chairman, told GMA 7's DZBB that the suspension would apply to private and public vehicles in all cities of Metro Manila except Makati. He said vehicular traffic in the metropolis has significantly decreased as students went on their summer break. The color-coding scheme will supposedly resume on June 2 with the opening of classes. However, MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando said they still have to meet with Metro Manila mayors on Wednesday to get their final inputs on the matter. He said about 14 out of 17 mayors have agreed to suspend the color-coding scheme.-GMANews.TV
