Valte: We serve at the pleasure of the President
"I will go wherever the President asks me to go."
This was the cryptic response of deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte to queries on whether she will be following the lead of Ricky Carandang, who recently resigned as the head of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office.
Carandang's resignation came almost two months after Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio "Sonny" Coloma Jr. began taking a more active role at Palace briefings, which used to be primarily the domain of Valte and presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
All members of the Communications Group, however, have denied of any takeover by any faction within the Palace.
"I know that you guys hear this a lot, most of the time but it is true that we do serve at the pleasure of the President. So I will go kung saan niya ako ilalagay o kung saan niya ako dadalhin or you know," said Valte.
"Ako naman I’ve always been upfront with the President and I’ve always told him that I will stay here as long as I can help," she added.
But asked if President Benigno Aquino III is planning on tranfering her, she said: "Not that he’s mentioned to me."
Earlier, Lacierda had also denied rumors that he and Valte offered to resign at the end of the month. "That's news to me," he said.
He added that he would only return to the private sector after Aquino's term ends in 2016. — Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
