AFP: 'Rebel' soldiers may face court martial

Military officials said Wednesday they might subject to court martial proceedings several junior and senior officers implicated in a recent failed rebellion to unseat President Arroyo. General Generoso Senga, military chief of staff, submitted to Rear Admiral Rufino Lopez, Armed Forces Inspector General, recommendations of the Army to file charges against 20 officials involved in the botched coup, including Brigadier Gen. Danilo Lim. The 20 officers were recommended to face the court martial for violation of the Articles of War 67 (mutiny), 68, (failure to report mutiny) and 97 (conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline). Senga also submitted the results of the Navy’s investigation into the Marine standoff in Fort Bonifacio on February 26. He said Lopez is now working to consolidate investigation reports from the Army and the Navy. Lopez would supposedly be given enough time to allow him to thoroughly evaluate the information at hand and accord due process to those who are involved. "I think we should wait for the integration of the report of the body of Admiral Lopez," Senga said.-GMANews.TV
