Fake ‘Ma-Ling’ seized
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday seized some 2,000 boxes of suspected fake "Ma-Ling" luncheon meat worth P1.5 million from a warehouse in Tondo, Manila. The canned goods were traced to a certain trader named Carmelo Sy, also owner of the warehouse at 1320 Juan Luna St. The agents organized the raid after securing a search warrant from Judge Emma S. Young of Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 36. Roland Argabioso, chief of the NBI Field Operations Division, said prior to the raid, NBI agents placed the warehouse under surveillance. The NBI managed to get samples of the fake canned meat. They were tested by the Bureau of Food and Drugs and initial tests showed that the meat products did not contain any pork. "We have to wait for further test to be conducted by the BFAD. Initial test made by BFAD showed that the fake luncheon meat contains no pork meatâ¦," Argabioso said. The NBI said Sy is not licensed to engage in distribution, importation, selling, manufacturing, repacking and/or trading of food or drug products. The establishment is facing violation of Republic Act 3720, as amended otherwise known as Food, Drugs and Devices and Cosmetics Act. - GMANews.TV
