Abalos distances self from brod’s electoral bid

Saying he was not his “brother’s keeper," Elections Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr on Tuesday distanced himself from his sibling who will run under a party-list organization of tricycle drivers in the May 14 midterm elections. Abalos got a beating from Akbayan partylist group after it learned that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) accredited Biyaheng Pinoy as a party-list organization. Akbayan said one of Biyaheng Pinoy’s nominees is Arsenio Abalos, a brother of the Comelec chief who is a medical doctor. “I am not my brother’s keeper…Is it my fault if he wants to run? I cannot stop him from organizing this," said Abalos, adding that Arsenio has been in politics longer than he was. Abalos said his brother is a former barangay chairman and president of the Association of Barangay Captains in the family’s bailiwick in Mandaluyong City. He also denied influencing the poll body’s decision on the accreditation of Biyaheng Pinoy. GMANews.TV
