Parades, discount caravans kick off Brigada Eskwela 2014
Parades and discount caravans highlighted the start of this year's Brigada Eskwela, the yearly school repair and cleaning program in preparation for the start of classes on June 2.
In Marikina City, parents and education officials took part in a parade shortly before the formal start of the yearly activity, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.
A photo posted by Vega on Twitter showed participants wearing Brigada Eskwela shirts taking part in the parade.

Even in areas hit by super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the Brigada Eskwela started to prepare schools for the June 2 opening of school, dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.
The Department of Trade and Industry launched a Diskwento Caravan-Balik Eskwela in Tacloban City, the report added.
Diskwento Caravans offer basic goods at low prices to make basic goods more available to poorer families.
Meanwhile, the DepEd issued a list of things people can do to help make schools clean and safe in time for the opening of classes:
- Coordinate with DepEd division.
- Identify and communicate support that will be provided to schools.
- Secure a copy of school preparedness checklist.
- Signify interest to assist school during preparation for class opening.
- Participate in school preparatory meetings for Brigada Eskwela.
- Attend disaster risk reduction and management orientation.
- Assist in the conduct of risk profiling.
- Support the school preparedness strategies.
