DepEd hikes to P7,500 the financial aid for students in private schools

The Department of Education has increased the subsidy for students studying in private schools under the Government Assistance for Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) outside Metro Manila.

Students covered by the program in participating schools outside Metro Manila will now get P7,500 subsidy per year, an improvement from last year's P6,500 subsidy.

Under the GASTPE education service contracting scheme, the government subsidizes the tuition of students who want to pursue secondary schooling in private schools.

It is jointly implemented by DepEd and the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE).

With ESC, the DepEd will subsidize almost one million students from Grades 7 to 10 for School Year 2014-2015. Last year, DepEd covered more than 800,000 students under ESC. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
