Gigi Reyes to remain under observation at Taguig Pateros hospital

(Updated 1:14 p.m.) Lawyer Jessica Lucila "Gigi" Reyes may have to remain under observation at the Taguig Pateros District Hospital, where she was brought before dawn Thursday after she suffered an alleged anxiety disorder.

Taguig Pateros District Hospital director Dr. Prudencio Sta. Lucia said Reyes' condition had stabilized and is being observed closely.

"Okay siya ngayon, naka-confine sa aming ward. Ino-observe namin siya... closely... mino-monitor namin siya just to make sure walang problem na mas malala," Sta. Lucia said in an interview with reporters. Parts of the interview were aired on dzBB radio.

But he also cited reports reaching him indicating that "may episode (na) umiiyak pa siya." He said they plan to transfer her to a single room.

Reyes was rushed to the hospital at 1:05 a.m. shortly after being transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility from the Sandiganbayan in Quezon City.

Reyes, a former chief of staff of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, faces plunder and graft charges in connection with the alleged P10-billion pork barrel scam.

Posts on radio dzBB's Twitter account quoted Sta. Lucia as saying Reyes was "hypertensive."

On the other hand, Sta. Lucia said the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology will still take care of her security.

Also, he said that as of Thursday noon, Reyes was receiving dextrose, and her blood pressure had improved from 170 over 110 to 130 over 90.

Moreover, he said Reyes had complained her extremities were numb, and her relatives suspect she may have had a seizure. Reyes was initially brought to the emergency room, he said.

At Thursday's press conference, parts of it were aired on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali," Sta. Lucia said Reyes may have panicked after she entered the jail late Wednesday night, which may have led to her anxiety attack.

He added that Reyes also experienced back pains.

"May pain siyang nararamdaman sa likod niya, I asked her kung anong posisyon ang gusto niya, so she opted na naka-flat lang siya," he said.

Meanwhile, he noted that Reyes' room is guarded by about 10 jail gurads from the BJMP.

"Actually, parang nare-restrain na rin [siya] because the BJMP guards were screening kung sino ang mga pumapasok, so hindi po talaga siya open to everybody," he said. — Joel Locsin and Amanda Fernandez /LBG, GMA News
