FDA warns vs. ‘power drops’

Health authorities over the weekend warned the public against an unregistered medicinal drop claiming to treat conditions ranging from cataract to tooth decay.

In Advisory 2014-053-A, the Food and Drug Administration identified the product as "Power Drops," which it said is being "distributed without FDA registration."

The FDA said the product label claims to be good for:

- cataract
- glaucoma
- red eyes
- teary eyes
- ptyregium
- myopia
- presbyopia
- nasal polyps
- runny nose
- ear infection
- oral thrush
- toothache
- tooth decay

The FDA also said the maker of the product, Living Power International Corp., is licensed only as a food distributor, importer, exporter and wholesaler and not as a drug distributor.

It added the label bears the statement for food supplements "No approved therapeutic claims" though the product is classified as a drug.  — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
