PNP chief Purisima admits having another property in Nueva Ecija

Aside from his P3.75-million property in San Leonardo town in Nueva Ecija, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Alan Purisima on Thursday admitted owning another property, this time, in Palayan City also in the same province.

“Opo, meron po akong property sa Palayan, Nueva Ecija...yun pong property na yun ay na-acquire po natin sa mga magsasaka po doon na halos hindi na masaka yung lupa, kaya napakamura po nating nabili sakanila,” Purisima told a news conference at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Purisima, however, refused to elaborate on the total lot area and cost of the said property, but denied that there were poulty and cow farm within the property.

Asked if the property was declared in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) Purisima replied: “I'm not sure, iche-check ko po sa aking SALN...but nabili po natin ito sa napakamurang halaga.”

The PNP chief also did not say when the property was acquired.

Purisima's property in San Leonardo, measuring 4.7 hectares, has been the subject of graft complaint against Purisima by the groups Coalition of Filipino Consumers (CFC) and the Volunteer Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).

The groups alleged that Purisima was not being truthful in his 2012 and 2013 SALNs that his property in San Leonardo was only acquired for P1.2 million in 2002 and its present market value is only at P3.75 million.

But in his press conference, Purisima maintained that there was nothing extravagant with his San Leonardo property, saying that it was not a mansion but just an ordinary house, measuring just 204 squaremeters (sqm), including the attic.

Purisima said that based on the latest assessment, the property's fair market value is just P2.3 million and at most can only be sold for P3 to P4 million. — Elizabeth Marcelo/RSJ, GMA News
