Firms confirm donating for renovation of PNP's ‘White House’, deny dealings with police

Two of the companies have confirmed being donors for the controversial renovation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief's official quarters inside Camp Crame.

In a statement on Thursday, Davao-based Ulticon Builders, Inc. said its donation of materials for the contruction was made in 2013, but the formal Deed of Donation was executed only last September 3.

Ulticon, however, said "it has no previous or pending financial or business transaction with the PNP," with the donation a mere way to help out in "a worthy project" and to keep up "with the demands of corporate social responsibility."

"The donation was not in any way intended to influence or secure any pending or future business or financial transaction with the PNP," it said.

For its part, Pacific Concrete Corp. affirmed that it gave P2 million in construction materials for the renovation of the PNP "White House," a report on GMA News TV's QRT said.

Government deals

The company likewise confirmed that it has contracts with other government agencies, but said those dealings underwent bidding.

Information from the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) showed that the two companies had contracts with some government agencies, amounting to P4 billion.

Pacific Concrete Corp. had won multiple contracts with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, with some contracts dating back to 2009, data culled by GMA News Research showed.

Contracts awarded to the company came in at P593 million.

Meanwhile, data showed that Ulticon Builders bagged a total of P3.3 billion in contracts from the DPWH and the local government of Bukidnon. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/JDS, GMA News
