PNP chief Purisima opens Nueva Ecija ‘mansion’ to media

(Updated 8:49 a.m.) Philippine National Police Chief Director General Alan Purisima on Monday opened his P3.7-million property in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija to the media.

Media teams from an 18-vehicle convoy started arriving outside the compound of Purisima to check his so-called controversial mansion there.

The media representatives were grouped into two batches, with the first batch including photographers and representatives from online and print media, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported.

Representatives from radio and television would comprise the second batch, the report added.

The report said the house was located far from the main highway in Brgy. Magpapalayok, and surrounded by a white fence and barbed wire.

Police personnel kept watch over the house and compound while barangay tanods lined the roads leading to the area.

At a press conference last week, Purisima maintained his property is not a mansion as what has been described by his critics, but just an ordinary house

Purisima was referring to a 204-square meter house on the controversial property, located inside a 4.7-hectare lot.

The house has a fair value market price of P2.3 million while the whole property was worth P3 to P4 million.

At the same time, Purisima invited media to see his property, the subject of a plunder complaint lodged against him before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Purisima has since refused to heed calls for his resignation by anti-crime groups, claiming the allegations against him were coming from those trying to stop the reforms he has initiated at the police organization. — Joel Locsin and Rouchelle Dinglasan/RSJ/KG, GMA News
