Juan Flavier's remains to lie in state at UP Diliman
The remains of former senator Juan Flavier, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 79, will lie in state at the Church of the Risen Lord at the Diliman campus of University of the Philippines. Members of the public can attend the wake from Friday morning until Monday afternoon.
Flavier's son-in-law Roby Alampay made the announcement on Thursday evening, hours after Flavier succumbed to multiple organ failure and sepsis brought about by pneumonia.
"The Flavier family is discouraging the sending of flowers, in lieu of contributions to a charity to be announced later," wrote Alampay in a post on social media. "Lubos pong nagpapasalamat ang buong pamilyang Flavier sa lahat ng pakikiramay at dasal."
Flavier's death has triggered an outpouring of grief online from colleagues, friends, and fans of his work as a legislator and as Health Secretary.
Shortly after his death, Malacañang called Flavier "an exemplary Filipino leader" in a statement to mourn his passing.
"We join the Filipino people in mourning the death of former Senator and Health Secretary Juan Flavier. As a public servant, he championed the cause of countryside development and upgrading the quality of public health care," said Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma. — JST, GMA News
