Family of slain ex-solon say they have key witness

Nearly a year after former Pasig congressman Henry Lanot was gunned down, his family said Tuesday they have found a witness who could help shed light on the killing. In an interview with GMA 7’s DZBB radio, Henry Ken Lanot II, son of the slain lawmaker, said they will soon present to police a person who claimed he was offered the hit job but refused to do it. The witness, whose identify the Lanot family has not yet disclosed, said he was only told a target would be have to be killed on Apr. 13, 2005, the day the Pasig solon was killed, and was surprised when news of the killing was reported later. He added that the man who offered him the job was recently arrested in the province. The late Lanot was shot to death by an unidentified lone gunman at a Mandaluyong restaurant. The younger Lanot expressed hope that the witness would help reveal who was behind the killing of his father. Philippine National Police spokesan Senior Supt. Samuel Pagdilao said the development would now give the investigation a clear direction to follow. He added that PNP chief Director General Arturo Lomibao has ordered Task Force Lanot, the group tasked to tackle the case, to secure the witness and others who may surface later.-GMANews.TV
