DOH: Peacekeepers doing well at Caballo Island
The Department of Health assured the public that the 133 Filipino peacekeepers quarantined at Caballo Island in Cavite are all healthy, a report from GMA's “News TV Live” program said Saturday.
According to DOH Spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee-Suy, no signs or symptoms of ebola infection have been observed among the peacekeepers in the past few days.
The statement comes after a health scare where two of the peacekeepers earlier felt unwell, with one of them displaying chills and a fever which are symptoms of ebola.
But the said peacekeeper tested negative for the ebola virus and was instead confirmed to have a relapse of malaria.
The peacekeepers who came from Liberia are currently under a 21-day quarantine period on Caballo Island.
Their quarantine period issued by the DOH as a precaution against the ebola virus which claimed at least 5,000 lives in the African region is scheduled to end on December 3. — Andrei Medina/VC, GMA News
